Taiwan’s Low Earth Orbit program shoots for the stars
WHAT
Taiwan is positioning itself as a strategic space player in Asia, backed by long-term policy commitments and multi-year funding. The authorities extended the Phase III National Space Program to 2031, raising the total budget to over NT$400 billion (US$12.3 billion) and passing the Space Industry Act to enable foreign participation.
The Taiwan Space Agency (TASA) plans to launch six low Earth orbit satellites starting in 2026, focusing on resilient communications and Earth observation. Meanwhile, Taiwan’s satellite ground equipment output is projected to surpass NT$300 billion (US$9.3 billion) in 2025, growing at 10%+ annually, far outpacing global averages. Over 51 Taiwanese suppliers are already integrated into global LEO supply chains, including SpaceX and OneWeb.
Beyond satellites, Taiwan’s ecosystem spans RF chips, PCBs, and advanced electronics, leveraging its semiconductor leadership to support satcom integration with 5G/6G backbones. The roadmap includes localized smallsat platforms, green propulsion, and orbital debris management, creating opportunities for international co-development.
HOW
Collaborative Initiatives: Taiwan is fostering collaboration between TASA, academia, industry, and startups, encouraging private investment in the space ecosystem. This collaborative environment is conducive to international partnerships.
International Programs: Programs like TAcc+ are inviting global satellite manufacturing startups to connect with Taiwan's supply chain ecosystem, offering a platform for Swedish companies to engage with Taiwanese counterparts. Position your solutions for integration with local suppliers and research institutes such as ITRI.
Advanced Manufacturing Collaboration: Taiwan's advanced manufacturing capabilities and vibrant technology ecosystem provide a fertile ground for Swedish companies to collaborate in satellite manufacturing, launch services, and other space-related technologies. Taiwan’s ecosystem also values international standards and transparent certification. Demonstrate proven interoperability and offer test validation services to shorten time-to-market.
