REVAMPING PHILIPPINE CONNECTIVITY AND PUBLIC TRANSPORT
WHAT
- The Philippines is experiencing a severe mobility crisis, with Metro Manila consistently ranked as one of the most congested cities in the world. This congestion is driven by inadequate and inefficient public transportation systems, as well as rapidly rising private vehicle ownership, resulting in severe gridlock, especially during peak hours. The economic cost of this is estimated at USD 22 billion annually and is projected to increase to USD 34 billion by 2035.
- As urban populations grow, the demand for reliable and sustainable public transport is reaching critical levels. The government is investing USD 176 bn across 209 infrastructure flagship projects (IFPs), with physical connectivity leading in both project count and cost. These include Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems, rail, roads and expressways, bridges, and airports. Some on-going projects include:
- New Manila International Airport – 12.91 bn
- Metro Manila Subway – 8.5 bn
- LRT Cavite Extension Project – 1.36 bn
- Nautical Highway Network Improvement – 1.101 bn
- Cebu Bus Rapid Transit – 504 million
- With these investments, there is rising demand for technologies and tools that could help improve the efficiency and reliability of public transport systems. The government is actively pursuing public–private partnerships (PPPs) in the area to improve service quality and introduce innovation.
HOW
- Contribute to the design and execution of innovative Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems that prioritize sustainability, efficiency, and accessibility for commuters.
- Introduce advanced bus technologies such as electric buses, real-time tracking, smart ticketing systems, and fare collection mechanisms to optimize operations and reduce environmental impact.
- Partner with the Philippine government through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) frameworks to co-develop and implement large-scale BRT infrastructure projects.
- Provide expertise in operational planning, network design, and integration of BRT systems into existing transport networks to ensure seamless and efficient commuter experiences.
