SMART AND SUSTAINABLE WATER MANAGEMENT IN THAILAND

WHAT

Thailand ranked 13th in the ‘extreme risk’ category of those most vulnerable to future climate change impacts over the next 30 years on the Global Climate risk index.

Thailand's water resources face challenges from rapid economic and population growth, as well as climate change. Despite being in the equatorial region with high rainfall, uneven distribution leads to water scarcity in some areas and flooding in others.

HOW

Thailand’s Water Resources Action Plan represents a major investment effort, with the proposed 2024 plan under the 20Year Master Plan allocating approximately 99 billion baht.

The government aims to address issues in six key areas within the water and wastewater segment:

  • Water management for consumption
  • Water security in the manufacturing sector
  • Flood and flood management
  • Water quality management and conservation of water resources
  • Conservation and rehabilitation of degraded watershed forests and prevention of soil erosion
  • Monitoring and management
